The North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA) hosts its annual event at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle on the 3-4th of May. The event features the NECTA Hospitality Salon, a competition open to regional colleges and the North East Chef of the Year, a competition open to professional chefs. Entering its 16th year, the NECTA Hospitality Salon looks to showcase the region’s most outstanding talent whilst raising aspirations for those in the industry.
North East Chef of the Year 2023
Thursday 4th May 2023, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Newcastle
All entrants must develop a three course menu with a written explanation as to why core ingredients have been chosen. The menu must show a clear awareness of seasonal local produce and demonstrate the chef’s knowledge of local supply chain, showcasing culinary ingredients from across the North East where possible (see more details here).
All entries will be judged on their knowledge of the ingredients, local supply, ambition and creativity. as well as menu management and presentation skills.
All entries MUST be uploaded as PDF document and a £25 administration fee paid.
Successful entrants will be notified in writing by the Chairman of Judges. If your entry is successful, you must provide the Chairman of Judges a recipe and method for each course on the day of the competition.
Selected chefs will be responsible for providing ALL ingredients for their dishes as well as supporting equipment outside what is already provided by the competition (see Hot Live Theatre Guidelines).
On the day of the competition, competitors will be judged on self discipline and organisation, creativity and flair, technical ability and presentation.
