Food and Drink Sector Council appointment for Chris Jewitt

Feb 10, 2023

Chris Jewitt, CEO of Food and Drink North East, has been appointed to the UK government’s Food and Drink Sector Council

The Food and Drink Sector Council is a formal industry partnership with the UK government to create a more productive and sustainable food and drink sector, and is composed of an industry-led board of senior industry individuals with representatives from across the entire food chain, covering farming, manufacturing, retail, hospitality and logistics.

The Council aims to be a mechanism for the industry to engage with the government in order to increase the sector’s productivity, with priorities within the following areas: agricultural productivity, nutrition, exports, workforce and skills, innovation, logistics and packaging.

On the 25th January 2023, Chris Jewitt, CEO of Food and Drink North East, accepted a formal invitation to join the Food and Drink Sector Council for a two-year term in public office with a remit to represent ‘Regional Perspectives’.

“This appointment is testament to the work that we have been doing at Food and Drink North East over the past three years and a huge opportunity for us to lobby hard on behalf of the North East agricultural, food, drink, hospitality and manufacturing clusters,” says Chris.

“Anyone who knows me will vouch for just how much I love our region and how committed I am to unleashing its potential – on our own terms. I’m humbled to have joined a board of some proper captains of industry and will work my socks off to make sure that our region’s challenges are heard and our needs expressed.”
