Food and Drink North East founder appointed as chair of NECTA

Chris Jewitt, Founder and CEO of Food and Drink North East (FADNE), the industry association, has been appointed as the new chair of the North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA).  The move comes following the stepping down of Douglas Jordan who, after 18 years of incredible service to NECTA and the North East hospitality industry, has decided to pass on the baton in August 2022.

“Having stepped down as NECTA Chairman, I am handing over this role to Chris Jewitt, CEO of Food and Drink North East. I do so with loyalty to NECTA and with reassurance knowing that Chris has the passion, knowledge, network and commitment to the North East that will safeguard all that has been achieved since NECTA was first founded in 2006. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Chris and his team all the very best for the future,” Douglas said.

As well as offering guidance, opportunity and support for the regional hospitality industry, NECTA also hosts the largest annual catering and hospitality skills competition in the North East.  NECTA Chef showcases the very best local chefs, front of house talent, a regional inter-college cooking competition as well as creative demonstrations from the influential baristas, mixologists and florists.

Chris Jewitt commented “I’ve been getting to know Douglas over the past few years and have always been hugely inspired by the work he and NECTA have done to celebrate and support the North East hospitality industry. When Douglas asked me to take on the role of Chair, I was both surprised and honoured given the respect I have for him and the organisation.

The opportunity to help inspire the next generation of talent, ensuring they confidently engage and excel within the industry, promoting regional produce and raising awareness of our food culture, shaping future ambassadors that will continue to place the North East on the gastronomic map – that’s the legacy I’ve inherited and my ambition is to build on this going forward.”
