The Producer Pitch events enable North East food and drink businesses to showcase their products to regional buyers, including chefs, restaurateurs, distributors and retailers, and explore potential business opportunities. By encouraging local businesses to work together, our ultimate aim is to shorten supply chains, create jobs and keep money within the local economy.
Every one of our ‘pitchers’ shared their stories with verve and passion, and it was great to see so many brilliant products on show. The event also included an element of creative competition that allowed Sunderland College catering and hospitality students to showcase their skills. Briefed to use local products and ingredients, the young chefs created canapés while front-of-house students served them to our guests to taste. Buyers from 21 Hospitality Group, Fenwick, Spicers of Hythe Ltd and JR Holland Food Services Ltd then judged each, with the winning student receiving a meal for two at 21.
This hugely inspiring event joined the dots between skills, innovation and supply chain, and it was a pleasure to see the future ambassadors of the sector step up to the plate and shine.
